I've spent decades on stages where there's no second take. Blues Alley. Birdland. Mezzrow. Ten years on the bandstand with Monty Alexander, playing changes that don't wait for anybody to think. And what I learned up there isn't more theory — it's the opposite. It's how to take everything you already know and boil it down to the handful of choices that actually work, in real time, under pressure.

I'm Lorin Cohen — professional bassist and educator based in New York City. For over 25 years I've toured and recorded with jazz luminaries including Monty Alexander, Joe Locke, and Larry Fuller, performing at venues including Birdland and Mezzrow.

I hold a Master's Degree in Jazz Studies from Queens College (CUNY), have taught at the City University of New York, and my YouTube channel has surpassed views. My debut album Home was recognized by DownBeat Magazine.

I've spent decades inside the deepest soloing tradition there is — jazz harmony. And what I've learned, from performing at the highest level and from working with hundreds of adult students, is this:

Most intermediate players don't fail at soloing because they lack knowledge. They fail because they have too much of it with no clear hierarchy. No one ever told them which tool to reach for first.

Jazz demands that clarity. You can't fake your way through complex changes with vague ideas about scales. You have to know — instantly, automatically — where to go. The Entry Point System takes that jazz-level precision and makes it accessible to any bassist, at any level, in any style.
